| The
CCD 297 is an intra-oral dental sensor that utilizes a full frame transfer
architecture and was designed specifically for digital radiography. The design of this CCD chip is also enhanced by the
use of a patented architecture which allows the corners of the chip
to be "clipped" or chamfered. The resulting non-rectangular array
provides more comfort to the patient when inserted in the mouth.
This architecture places the horizontal output register in the center
of the imaging area instead of at one end. Besides the ergonomic
benefits, the resulting "center readout register" provides an additional
benefit. The register is used to detect the initiation of an x-ray
and can alert the system to such an occurrence. Once the x-ray is
detected, the center readout register then goes into the imaging
mode and is utilized like the rest of the imaging area. The
CCD 297 sensor assembly consists of a chip assembly (CCD chip, ceramic
substrate, fiber optic faceplate, scintillator), housing and cable.
