The X-ray cassette utilizes a 4096 x 4097, 15µm pixel (CCD485) device with a fiber optic faceplate and scintillator attached. Drive electronics and cooling were provided to interface with the existing X-ray platform. The idea was to replace x-ray film with electronic imaging in the spot and biopsy mammography machines. Fairchild Imaging's experience in X-ray imaging coupled with our wafer scale CCD competency combined in a patented mammography cassette design and manufactured for OEM integrators General Electric Medical Systems.
